On Sunday 2nd July the Devonshire Tercentenary Teddy Bears Picnic was held on a glorious summer’s day in the grounds of Lord and Lady Clifford’s house at Ugbrooke Park.
Just fewer than 100 children enjoyed the Teddy Bears Picnic in support of the Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) initiative, to celebrate 300 years of Freemasonry and the milestone of distributing 2 million Teddy Bears.
The Teddy Bear Picnic organising committee of Keith Bower, Keith Williams, Gerald Sclater and their wives said that the Fundraising Packs and Materials provided by the United Grand Lodge of England proved a great success and the children really did enjoy their picnic.
For many of the children the Teddy Bears Picnic was the highlight of their day. The fun and laughter coming from the marquee could be heard across the park as the children tucked into their sandwiches, coloured in their posters and answered their questionnaires.
We even had two visiting children on an exchange programme from Chernobyl. Although they could not speak very much English you could see that they both had such a positive and enjoyable day.
