The Ancient or Atholl Masonic Lodge of St. John who meet at the Manadon Masonic Hall, Crownhill, Plymouth are one of the oldest masonic lodges in England having held their warrant since 1759.
At a recent Friends and Family Night which was attended by over forty members and their families, together with the representatives from five local charities, David Wells “MIND”, Terry Harris-Layne “The Alzheimer’s Society”, Amy May “Honeyford Ward. Derriford Hospital” Linda Zacharkew “Cardiology Ward. Derriford Hospital” and Andrew Coles “Roborough Pre-School” each receiving cheques amounting to a total of £500.
This occasion was held with mixed emotions, Clem Spence who was the current Worshipful Master of the Lodge sadly passed away in July so the occasion was chaired by Graham Memory who is currently Worshipful Master Pro-Tem until the next installation meeting in December, the donations to the two wards at Derriford Hospital were given in memory of Clem who spent a lot of time supporting the services of the hospital but was also the recipient of such good care from them when it was needed most.
After the presentation all those present were invited to join the brethren in a superb buffet supper which was enjoyed by everyone, this was also an opportunity for the charity representatives to thank St. John’s members for their generosity.
