Freemasons donate £2000 to North devon Hospice

This year sees the Freemasons celebrate their tercentenary and as part of their annual support of Hospices throughout the country the Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire W. Bro. Charles Yelland can be seen here presenting a certificate denoting the £2002 given on behalf of the Masonic Charitable Foundation to Stephen Roberts, CEO of North Devon Hospice and Jessica Marsland, Trusts and Grants Officer of North Devon Hospice, Barnstaple.

The Masonic Charitable Foundation will this year give grants totalling £600,000 to hospices in England including nearly £14,000 to seven hospices here in Devon as part of the £12 million given since 1984.

The Freemasons have been long term supporters of the North Devon Hospice and along with individual donations made by many of the 138 Lodges that meet throughout the county and the Masonic Charitable foundation together, they have donated nearly £50,000 since 1984 when their records begun. On receiving the certificate  Stephen Roberts the  CEO for the hospice said “We are incredibly grateful to the Freemasons for this wonderful donation as well as their continued and generous support over many years for the care that North Devon Hospice provides. In choosing to support North Devon Hospice the Freemasons are positively impacting the lives of local patients and their families. In the face of increased demand for our care yet challenging times in terms of fundraising, their support enables us to continue to be there for patients and their families across North Devon at a time in their lives when they need all of the care they can get.”

Since 1984 when the first hospice nurse was appointed North Devon Hospice has provided expert palliative and family centred care for patients within the community, this includes day care, care in the patients home as well as in the hospice and also includes bereavement and carers support groups.

The Assistant Provincial Grand Master W. Bro. Charles Yelland when he presented the certificate said “The good work done by the carers and staff at the North Devon Hospice is so special, not only to those in the final stages of their lives, but equally to every member of their families .The Masonic family is pleased to be able to contribute in a way which will help this wonderful team continue their invaluable work”
