The Tercentenary Banner which was manufactured in North Devon and dedicated by W.Bro. Raymond Bray at the 2017 meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge has travelled to Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset was passed to Devonshire at Exeter Cathedral on 20th August 2017.
It was raining heavily in Exeter when 160 Freemasons and their families gathered for the Banner Passing from PGL Somerset to PGL Devonshire. At the last minute the two Provincial DC’s W.Bro. Mike Doleman and W.Bro. Chris Marchmont moved the ceremony to inside the Cathedral.
With the PGM and Brethren from Somerset dressed in full regalia and carrying their Provincial Standards forming up and parading along the North Aisle of the cathedral and the PGM and Brethren from Devonshire from the South Aisle, the handover ceremony was conducted by the two Provincial Grand Masters R.W.Bro. Stuart Hadler and R.W.Bro. Ian Kingsbury with great dignity at the Great West Door, in front of wives and partners. The Banner and procession of Freemasons then paraded down the Main Aisle to a superb buffet, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The Tercentenary Banner has united the eight Provinces which form the South West Region and the ambience inside the cathedral complimented the occasion when the Banner returned to our custody.
