On Saturday 5th August the Nationwide Masonic Classic Car Rally came to Devonshire. The series of individual Classic Car Runs named by the United Grand Lodge of England “Classic 300” was launched at Winsor Great Park in May 2017 and has held rallies all over England and Wales. These non-competitive classic car runs are for the enjoyment of the participants and to be seen and enjoyed by members of the public.

A Travelling Gavel (made from con-rods) is carried on the runs visiting many famous circuits and motoring venues, including the Isle of Man’s TT circuit, and will eventually arrive at Brooklands motor circuit in Weybridge, Surrey, in October, where the event ends.

The Devonshire leg of the rally named “Southwest One” was organised by Kit LeMarquand. The cars picked up the Travelling Gavel from Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset, then travelled through the wonderful Devonshire countryside to pick up the PGM R.W.Bro Ian Kingsbury and his wife Toni at their home address in North Devon.

The PGM and Toni were then transported to Dingles Fair Ground at Lifton where Phil Cotterill presented the gavel to the PGM who then presented it to Kit Le Marquand for onward transmission to the PGM of Cornwall for its run from Saltash to Lands End.
