The Devon Masonic Golf Association Spring Meeting was held on Thursday 25th May 2017 at Honiton Golf Club, Honiton. 31 Brethren in total from North, East, South ,West Devon and this meeting Somerset enjoyed a days golf with a 2 course meal and prize presentation all in aid of Charity. The format for the day was a 4 ball better ball with ¾ handicap (Playing as Pairs). The weather shone on the golfers during play making it a hot and sunny day for all who took part. Twice a year on the 4th Thursday of May and August Masons from all over the Province of Devonshire as well as a few invited guests are invited to play for the Vale of Haldon Bowl and Nigel Adkins Shield (Runner up) along with cheques made payable to their Lodge for Charity of their choosing. There are also Charity cheques for runner up 2nd & 3rd places. In total charity cheques to the value of over £200.00 are presented to the winners. Once again the Honiton Golf Club put on a superb evening meal and a raffle was also held to boost funds. After the meal W.Bro Peter Haige Past APGM and President of the DCMA Association presented the prizes. 1st Prize – Vale of Haldon Bowl (38 points) - W.Bro Bill Daw PJGD, Charity Lodge No 223/OPM Lodge 6279 partnered with W.Bro. John Smerdon PAGDC, Old Plymothian and Mannameadian Lodge No. 6279
Runner Up – Nigel Adkins Shield (37 points countback) – W.Bro. Peter Layzell PastDepPGM Somerset partnered with W.Bro. John Cottrell PSGW, Somerset.
2nd Place (37 points countback) – W.Bro Peter Durrant MBE PSGW, Sir John Hawkins lodge No. 3704 Played with W.Bro Bill Daw And W.Bro John Smerdon as the only 3 ball played, taking the score off Bill Daw’s Card chosen randomly before the playing. 3rd Place (37 points / countback) – W.Bro. Andrew Bowen ProvGStwd, The Smeaton Lodge No. 4352 playing with W.Bro. Roy Bulley PPrAGDC, Brunswick Lodge No. 159
W.Bro Peter Haige Past APGM, President of the Association welcomed new members and the two guests from the Province of Somerset, he also thanked everyone who put the day together especially W.Bro. Allan Seager , Secretary, W.Bro. Cliff Nightingale, Treasurer and W.Bro Dennis Langmead who acted as recorder and checked all the returning score cards. Why not come and join us on 24th August 2017 at Stover Golf Club, no membership required just book in and enjoy a game of golf with a meal and if you play well a cheque to take back to your Lodge Charity Steward to go to Charity.
