Lodge of Charity No.223 - Ray Taylor 60 years of FreemasonryAt the Lodge of Charity No 223, meeting at St Aubyn Masonic Hall, Stoke, Plymouth on Tuesday 4th October 2016, W.Bro. Peter J. Keaty Asst. Provincial Grand Master presented a 60 year Certificate to W.Bro Ray Taylor P.Pr.J.G.W. on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire R.W.Bro. Ian Kingsbury.

It was a very busy evening. The presentation was proceeded by a Second Degree Ceremony. The meeting was attended by a good number of Brethren and visitors.

W.Bro P.J. Kearty Asst. P.G.M. spoke at length on Ray's personal life and Masonic Career. He was born and educated in Plymouth. He served his apprenticeship as a blacksmith with the Plymouth Civil Engineers Department, designing and manufacturing the Fences and Lampposts around Plymouth. He served with the Civil Engineers Dept. for twenty five years..Gained the position of Workshop Supervisor and retired after Forty five years service.

Ray was initiated into the Lodge of Charity No 223 on 22nd October 1956. Passed to a Fellowcraft in November 1956, and raised to the Sublime degree of a Master Mason in January 1957. He worked his way through the Offices of the Lodge. He became Worshipful Master in December 1971.

He held the Office of Secretary for many years. He was an active member of the Lodge Social Committee. With the help of his late wife May and other Committee members they organised many Ladies Nights. He remain.‘ loyal and committed to the Lodge and is still working tirelessly in both the Craft and Mark Degree.

On presenting the Certificate W.Bro Peter J. Keaty Asst P.G.M. brought with him the best wishes and congratulations from R.W. Bro Ian Kingsbury Provincial Grand Master and said how privileged he felt on being asked to present the Certificate. Ray thanked all concerned for making the presentation an Emotional and memorable occasion. The Brethren then retired for an excellent festive Board. Toasting the good health of Ray. This ended a very happy Masonic evening.
