TWO charities in Bovey Tracey have been handed cheques for £250 from the town's Freemason Lodge.
Vanessa Steer and Martin Brealey from the Bovey Tracey Swimming Pool, along with Mariann Johnson from the town's Youth Cafe, were presented with the cheques by Cllr George Gribble, a founding member of the Freemasons Lodge. Cllr Gribble said the two charities has been chosen because of their huge contribution to the community, relying on volunteers and only a minimum number of paid staff and it was impor-tant to demonstrate support for their work.
Vanessa, the pool's secretary. said:
"The swimming pool closed mid Sep-tember after a good season thanks to the better weather. 'However the cost of naming a pool is high in spite of having more than 60 loyal volunteers so we are very grateful to the Bovey Tracey Freemasons for their kind donations of £250."
This season almost £2,000 was spent by the pool committee renewing electrics and replacing a chlorine injector pump.
Mariann, from the youth cafe, said:
"We are so grateful to the Freemasons for their kind donation. It was a wonderful surprise. We will use the funds to help continue the day-to-day running of the cafe where we have approximately 150 youngsters aged 11-18 on our books."
