On 21st June the peace and quiet of Trafalgar Lawn, the home of the Masonic Centre in Barnstaple, was shattered by the arrival of sixteen large powerful motorcycles! Brothers from the ‘Widows Sons South East Chapter’ were on a marathon 24 hour ride visiting 12 Provinces in the South of England from Kent to Cornwall and back to Kent.

The ride, organised by the Motorcycling Lodge of West Kent 9899 was to raise funds for ‘Lifelites’, the Masonic charity that gives children with limited life unlimited possibilities through the magic of technology in Children’s Hospices throughout England. Barnstaple was one of the ‘watering holes’ where the riders were able to stretch their legs, get some refreshment and receive a cheque for £240 from North Devon Masons, several of whom had arrived on their own bikes to welcome the visitors. And, of course, with all this machinery there had to be one casualty who ended up with a flat battery, fortunately he was a local but I shan’t mention any names! The ride was actually completed in 21 hours and has raised £4,200 so far with more money coming in!

Well done ‘Sons of the Widow’ !!
