Langstone Cliff Hotel Dawlish Warren Devon. 20th June 2017
The Consecration Meeting was held at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren, Devon on 20th June 2017. With an early start by the Louis Marchesi Chapter Steering Committee Quartermaster, Comp. Paul Spooner and his team delivered the heavy furnishings and other regalia from Uffculme and elsewhere. They then set about transforming the hotel ballroom into a lavishly furnished Royal Arch Temple, the magnificence of which was in very large part due to the generosity of the Founders and the wonderful support from many Companions elsewhere, who had provided furnishings and working implements manufactured with loving care under their own hands.
There then followed a successful rehearsal. Following light refreshments, Over 150 Companions including Founders, their guests, the Provincial Team, their guests and other Companions assembled for the 2.30 pm. Consecration ceremony.
Most Excellent Companion Simon W Rowe, The Grand Superintendent in and over the province of Devonshire, assisted by E. Comp. G W Watson the 2nd Provincial Grand Principal, E. Comp. J D Sevieri, the 3rd Provincial Grand Principal, and E. Comp A J Parker, Provincial Grand Scribe E, together with the rest of the Provincial Consecration team then performed a moving and enjoyable ceremony. This included an Oration by E. Comp. Christopher Roach in which he explained the background to both the Round Table movement in general, the Louis Marchesi Lodge and the new Louis Marchesi Chapter No. 9558 in particular.
Among the many notable guests were Devon’s own Past Grand Superintendent, E. Comp. C J Pengelly, the Grand Superintendents of Gloucestershire & Herefordshire, M. E. Comp. Graham King, and of Cornwall, M. E. Comp. David Pasco, the Past Grand Superintendents of Monmouthshire, E. Comp. Malcolm Lane and of Warwickshire, E. Comp. John Saint, the Deputy Grand Superintendent of Cornwall, E. Comp. Peter Collins, and the Past Deputy Grand Superintendent of Warwickshire, E. Comp. John Handley.
The ceremony concluded with the newly established Louis Marchesi Chapter No. 9558 conducting the business essential for the first meeting on Tuesday 17th October next, when a brief Installation will be performed followed by an Exaltation. The Chapter was then closed.
At the Banquet the Companions, dined well on an excellent three course meal which was followed by the traditional toasts. During these, Companions were treated to the wise and thoughtful comments of our own Grand Superintendent M E. Comp. Simon Rowe, Louis Marchesi Chapters very own past Grand Superintendent E. Comp. Roy Webber, The Chapter Steering Committee Chairman E. Comp Frank Elkins, Companion Paul Hewson, E. Companion David Prout and the response on behalf of our guests from John Handley PDGS Warwickshire and a past General Secretary of Round Table Britain and Ireland.
